In my previous Reflective Journal I wrote that I can feel the back of 1990s in the air. Few month after such brands as Balmain and Dsquared present their collection inspired by this decade.
Especially Dsquared took the inspiration from particular shoot which may be called the reflection of 1990s. I'm talking here about Peter Lindbergh's photoshoot from 1991 for British Vogue with the best supermodels of the time including Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford or Tatjana Patitz.
All of them wearing biker hats, short skirts, leather and biker boots, posing with motorcycles in the background were the base for Dean and Dan Caten.
After watching the show on youtube I automatically saw George Michael's video for "Too Funky" from 1992.
The beginning of the Dsquared show is almost the same as the part with Linda Evangelista in George Michael's video:
The other reference for the collection is 1991 Autumn/Winter collection of Chanel:
And one more thing... Silhouettes :
I am definitely doing a shoot inspired by 1990s! And it will definitely be the Chanel vintage style + George Michael + all the music that reminds me when I was few years old kid:
This is awesome. No pointless arguments. No hipsters claiming to have heard this first. No trolls. No religious debates. Just people reminiscing of better times, and younger kids (like me) discovering the awesome music of the 90's.
I am a bigger fan of Vivienne Westwood as a person, that a label. I really admire the way she tries to get people's attention on such problems as climate changes and future of the Earth.
She used her Spring/Summer 2013 show to remind people how important are small things like turning off the phone chargers, when we are not using them, or turning the lights off when we leave the room.
Most of the reviews from this show were dedicated to the mission of a "Climate Warrios", Vivienne Westwood, not the fashion. Even the designer said she doesn't want women to buy her last collection, because protection of the Earth is way more important.
Every year I find Vivienne Westwood more and more inspiring. And what she does is another proof for people who think that fashion industry is very vain and that it cares only about the appearance and clothes. Nothing could be more wrong. Fashion is just an excuse to create something beautiful and improve the World.
The fact of man- made climate change is accepted by most people. Through every walk of life people are changing their values and their behaviour, this seems to be happening in the US, despite its being politically backward. This continues to build the Revolution. The fight is no longer between the classes or between rich and poor but between the idiots and the eco-conscious.
We need a formal inauguration of the Revolution and a plan of operation.
Resist Economic Propaganda
Our economic system, run for profit and waste and based primarily on the extractive industries, is the cause of climate change. We have wasted the earth’s treasure and we can no longer exploit it cheaply. This shows up as a symptom; the symptom which is the proof of climate change is the financial crisis.
Economists treat economics as if it is a pure science divorced from the facts of life. The result of this false accountancy is a willful confusion under cover of which industry wreaks its havoc scot-free and ignores the human and environmental cost. The old, blind, mechanistic and life threatening view of economists prevents a true analysis. If they included climate change in their analysis we could work towards a better future. If we want a sound economy we have to have a sound environment- stop climate change.
Plan of operation
1) Affirm the connection between climate change and the financial crisis. 2) Implement two measures without which we cannot stop climate change:i. Establish the Artic Commonsii. Save the Rainforest Both of these are possible right now.3) Tackle the need for clean energy. The quickest safe option is nuclear. The problem is that the public is against it. We think this is because of false propaganda from the press who have massively misrepresented the facts to satisfy the thrill of a good scare story. (You can still be part of the Revolution even if you don’t agree – it’s just that time is running out and we need to decide.) 4) Curb the Corporations, especially the extractive industries and agribusiness. (We notice a recently coined word, “Corporocracy”.) We shall now form a cabinet of operations so that we can rally the troops who are already forming.
How to join the Revolution
Many people have changed their way of living. The more this happens, the greater the Revolution, the greater the chance of saving our planet.
1) Money is a means to an end, not an end in itself. “I never waste money I spend it”- Oscar Wilde. Maybe you’ll give a donation to an NGO or charity. You can give your support in other ways. Just by following one you will learn a lot, this is support. 2) Quality v Quantity 3) Buy less, choose well, make it last (we don’t want the “latest thing” just for the sake of it.) 4) Prepare and cook your own food. 5) Cut out plastic. 6) Inform yourselves. 7) Consider the responsibility of not having or having children. Chances of survival will be clear by next Olympics. 8) Take an active part in events of the Revolution as it starts to build. 9) Engage in art and culture. 10) Your own idea.
Climate changes effects:
Vivienne is not the only example of designer or fashion professional, who shows the care about the Earth, nature or just do her work to elp other people. Few years ago, when Haiti was destroyed by the horrible earthqake, Naomi Campbell organized the Fashion for Relief show during New York Fashion Week. The clothes donated by different designers were later sold and all the money were submitted for the Haiti. Simple idea, but very helpful.
During this show, Naomi combined fashion and charity, because she didn't only sold the beautiful clothes to help Haiti, but also gave her tribute to Alexander McQueen, who died few days earlier.
United Colors of Benetton has always been in involved in different kind of social actions.
This time, inspired by the spreading around Europe crisis, Benetton created a campaign with people who cannot find a job for a very long time, not because they are not good enough or they don't have education, but because here is no jobs. This project convinces me how big power fashion has.
After Pussy Riot and their balaclavas, there is another example of using fashion for a good reason.
If someone asks me about most influencial, recognizable and inspirational people from the fashion industry, one of them will definetely be Anna Piaggi
Eccentric writer and Vogue journalist with the collection of 2865 dresses and 265 pairs of shoes sadly passed away on 6th of August 2012.
As Piaggi was such a big personality, I thought it could be great to make an editorialinspired by her style and also as a tribute to her as an icon.
I think it's really good idea, because Anna's style forces to create clothes by myself as a lot of her wardrobe looked like it was done by DYI technique.
Her crazy ideas, hats, shoes, stick she used when she wa solder, even her bright blue hair - all thatis very good base to create probably one of the most creative styling on the photo shoot.
And as I said before, Anna Piaggi was one of the greatest inspiration, so she would definetely deserve a tribute editorial.
People were always interested in Universe and everything that is happening outside Earth.
The United States's Apollo 11 was the first manned mission to land on the Moon on 20 July 1969.There have been six manned U.S. landings (between 1969 and 1972) and numerous unmanned landings, though no soft landings have occurred since 1976.
On 25th of August, the first man on the Moon, Neil Armstrong passed away.
At the same time, Curiosity Rover was sent to explore the surface of Mars.
I think that these two events had an influence on the Galaxy trend, although I have seen Galaxy prints earlier as well. But I think that now there will be like a big boom of this motives. Smaller brands like Black Milk or Aloha from Deer use Galaxy print on their hoodies, leggings and blouses, while Jeffrey Campbell presents Galaxy wedges and heels.

The Galaxy/Universe trend is also inspiring for the stylists. There is more and more fashion editorials with these motives:
My absolutely favourite project inspired by Cosmos is the collaboration of Nike and Tom Socho "Mars Yard Shoe"and "Ortho Tote Variant"- shoes and bags inspired by astronaut's equipment. I also love the advertising campaign with the rusty powder imitating Mars' surface with stones and Nike shoe's trace. ♡♡♡
Even the Mars Yard Shoe at once reminds of the colors of the planet (brownish/red/beige)
I find this idea very interesting. If I do a still life shoot with accessories I actually may come back to this idea.
